Otoplasty is the cosmetic ear surgery done to correct the size, shape, and position of the ear. It usually gives a natural shape to the ear and balances proportion to face and ear. It is usually done in cases where there is a congenital defect in-ear or defect due to trauma to the ear. It can also be done to recorrect previously malcorrected ear. This surgery not only helps in restoring natural shape to the ear but also helps in boosting the confidence of the patient.

It can be done anytime after 5 years of a child’s age as the growth of cartilage is a little stable after that.
The incision of the surgery is usually given at the back of the ear so that the post-surgery incision line is not visible. Even if incisions are required in front of the ear, they are usually given at natural creases or lines.
Immediately pain can be a little bothering and supportive pain killers are given. Hematoma, bleeding, infection are the other known complications that can sometimes occur.
Some of the late complications of the surgery are scarring, asymmetry in-ear placement, changes in skin sensation, and overcorrection.
Results are immediate and quite satisfying. Once the bandage is removed, one can appreciate the results.
